George Stevens Academy seeks an inspiring and collaborative Head of School to lead the institution into its next chapter. The next leader will guide a historic academy that holds a unique place in the educational landscape of Maine. As a town academy, GSA serves as the high school for several local communities while also welcoming private-pay day students and a small number of boarding students through a host-family program. This dual identity requires thoughtful leadership that honors community partnerships while advancing the school’s independent mission.
The Head of School will work closely with the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders to strengthen the school’s academic programs, support enrollment growth, and ensure financial sustainability. The role includes overseeing the academic program, faculty development, student life, and operational leadership while serving as the chief ambassador for the school within the region and beyond.
The next Head will have the opportunity to build on GSA’s strong traditions while positioning the school for long term success. Opportunities include strengthening partnerships with local towns, expanding experiential and place-based learning initiatives, supporting strong local enrollment while sustaining the school’s small host-family boarding program, and advancing fundraising and alumni engagement efforts.
Most of all, the Head of School will champion the academy’s commitment to providing an exceptional education that serves both local families and students from around the world.
