Army and Navy Academy, a college preparatory military boarding school for boys, grades 7 – 12, seeks an authentic, innovative, and strategically minded leader to serve as their next President. 

Founded in 1910 and set on a 16.5-acre beachfront campus in the resort community of Carlsbad, 35 miles north of San Diego, Army and Navy Academy (the Academy) is the only boarding-day school on the West Coast offering military-style structure,leadership training, core character development, and a broad college-preparatory curriculum that meets the University of California's rigorous admissions requirements. The Academy enrolls approximately 290 boys [in grades 7–12] from 19 states and 11 countries, with 264 boarding and 26 attending as day students.

What sets the Academy apart is its singular focus on how boys learn and lead. As one of only two Gurian Centers of Excellence in the nation, the Academy tailors its classrooms to brain-based research on boys' development, including stand-up desks, hands-on activities, movement, music, and other proven methods. Cadets can pursue a four-year aviation pathway built with Embry-Riddle Aeronautics University, compete on a robotics team recently crowned number one in JROTC nationally, and take advantage of a popular culinary program. They build character through Leadership Training courses in grades 8–12, hold rank and responsibility within the Corps of Cadets — designated an Honor Unit with Distinction — and take to the water with private beach access for surfing and recreation. In classrooms with a 12:1 student-teacher ratio, they are mentored by a faculty with 6–8 years of average tenure, 41 percent of whom hold advanced degrees.

The Academy's six core values (Honor, Integrity, Respect, Commitment, Gratitude, and Courage) are lived daily, shaping the Academy's mission to forge virtuous young men for life. Ninety-five percent of graduates enroll in four-year colleges and universities, and ten percent attend top service academies or ROTC universities. Recent facilities investments, including the Duffield Sports Center and the Student Enrichment Center, reflect the Academy's 2008 Master Infrastructure Plan, a long-term commitment to modernizing campus life for its 116-year-old institution.

The next President will step into a community with strong bones: a devoted faculty and staff of 120, an 18-member Board of Trustees spanning generations of alumni, past parents, and community leaders, and a brotherhood of 3,500 graduates who speak of their Academy years with pride. Also on the horizon: continued momentum toward a long-term enrollment goal of 400 cadets, a new Mess Hall and experiential learning center, and a capital campaign to support them. The new leader will bring financial acumen, board experience, and a genuine appreciation for the ways military structure benefits boys, as well as someone energized by marketing and enrollment growth, philanthropic partnership, and the opportunity to build the next chapter of the Academy’s legacy.
